Pensioner hit by taser gun
POLICE fired a taser gun at a 71-year-old man after an incident involving a next door neighbour.
Paul Spratt, prosecuting, told North Staffordshire magistrates that Derrick Morrey believed the activities of the people next door were affecting his television reception. He took either an ice pick or a claw hammer round to the home of Joseph Finnigan and his partner in Pennell Street, Bucknall, and smashed two windows and a door. Mr Spratt said Morrey then went to Mr Finnigan's car and smashed the windows.
-

Police asked Morrey to put down the weapon three times. When he didn't a taser gun was fired at his chest.
Morrey, of Pennell Street, Bucknall, pleaded guilty to affray, criminal damage to two windows and a door, and damaging car windows, on December 29. Sentence was adjourned until January 23.
He was conditionally bailed.

“Peter, Tunstall, You say the police should have used the pepper spray before the taser well one question would go up to somebody who is weilding a ice pick or claw hammer and try to spray them NO i dont think you would, the officer (s) knew what they were doing.”

“Peter, why should the line be drawn at elderly. If they are capable of acting violently then they can be treated the same.
The only line that should be drawn is law abiding/non law abiding. Break the law, face the consequences.”

“Perhaps the taser is going to be the new PC method of CHARGING people, in Brown's Britain.”

“You have to put yourselves in the shoes of the police. It's a case of damned if they do or damned if they don't. If he had gone on to injure someone or even worse kill and the police hadn't of used tazer everone would be on here saying the police are useless!”

“Peter, Tunstall
Sorry but are clearly clueless in such matters and have not thought things before you have commented.”

“Peter from Tunstall. You clearly have no idea or clue whatsoever.
Your name should be Peter the armchair warrior who critises from the safety of his own home. I bet you have never had to face a violent person in any way shape or form and you also clearly know very little if anything at all about Taser.
Well done to these Police Officers for safely dealing with this violent AND dangerous man without injuring themselves, him or any innocent person.
The fact he has pleaded guilty to such a string of offences show that the Police acted entirely properly and appropiately in the circumstances.”

“Andy, Sandbach.
You are misinformed, "Tasers" are lethal, they are being reassessed in other Countries as they "HAVE" caused deaths. No doubt you agree with the "Met" and the shooting of an innocent man on the tube.!
Pepper Spray or CS Spray (as you point out), should have been used first, before resorting to "Taser".
As an Ex Copper of the old school, before the days of CS/Tasers/Guns etc, as standard equipment, we handled most situations by numbers in attendance and talking to the offender. (s)
There were a few times when violence was used to subdue situations but not too the the extent it is used today.!
To conclude, I used "Hoodies" and "Drunks" as an example" if you are so versed in Police Tactics, you would know that .
The line should be drawn at elderly, in firmed and disabled,! unless of course they are wielding guns/bombs/Catapults, not forgetting, grannies walking stick.! and of course wheelchairs.!
Restraint and moderation should be the watch words.
To easy these days do Police resort to the easy method.!”
