Pensioner in £19m fraud
PENSIONER Terence Broad has pleaded guilty to charges in connection with a £19 million VAT scam.
The 65-year-old, of Bemersley Road, Brown Edge, admitted three counts of conspiracy to cheat the revenue between September 15, 2004 and July 31, 2006.
He appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London with 15 other defendants who all denied any involvement.
The scam involved importing electrical goods including DVD players and TVs from Europe, which were exempt from VAT at the point of entry. The tax was then claimed back resulting in a multi million pound profit.
Broad will be sentenced after trials of his co-accused.
