Patients grow their own food
HOSPITAL staff and patients have been growing vegetables for visitors to eat in the on-site restaurant.
Patients at St George's Hospital have been working on an allotment at the back of Corporation Street in Stafford, and have also created some raised beds and a polytunnel in one of the gardens at the hospital.
They have produced a range of vegetables and herbs to offer to the catering team at George's Bistro.
Jan Lowe, operational supervisor for catering, who is involved in the project, has made a donation to the horticulture fund which has allowed the gardeners to purchase a much-needed strimmer for the allotment.
Kathy McAdam, forensic allied health professions lead, said: "Growing plants is very therapeutic and can have very positive effects on everyone's mental health.
"Our patients have really enjoyed working on the allotment and in the garden and are delighted to be able to share their produce and see it cooked, eaten and enjoyed."
