MARK Grew reckons Port Vale might have to play the waiting game tonight.

The assistant manager thinks struggling Bristol Rovers will be looking to 'park the bus' and says the Valiants will have to be patient.

Mark McGhee's fourth-from-bottom outfit have lost five of their last six matches and have won just once on the road this season.

But they have collected three draws on their travels and Grew is expecting the visitors to produce a determined rearguard effort at Vale Park.

"We might well have to be patient," he said. "I think Bristol will come here looking for a draw like a lot of teams have.

"So we have to cut out the lapses at the back and keep our concentration."

Vale have failed to win any of their last five league games, but Grew laughed off suggestions of any crisis.

"We didn't play particularly well on Saturday and nobody is more disappointed than the lads themselves because they know that's twice in the last two home games we've built a 2-0 lead and thrown it away.

"But I've heard people mention a crisis when we're still second in the league.

"We haven't won for five games, but we haven't lost either."

"But there are still 22 clubs who would gladly swap positions with us."

Rovers are certainly one of those, though Grew is surprised to see them struggling so much.

"I picked out three or four teams at the start of the season who I thought would do well and Bristol were right up there as one of them.

"But I watched them at Burton three or four weeks ago and they looked lacking in confidence.

"They had two players sent off on Saturday (a 2-1 defeat at Rochdale) and that will give them even more headaches."

Those red cards mean automatic suspensions for defender Gary Kenneth and striker Eliot Richards, while Rovers have also been hit by injuries with midfield ace Matt Gill, striker Matt Harrold and defender Cian Bolger all out long-term.

It's left McGhee struggling for numbers at times, but he's looking forward to the challenge at Vale Park.

"There's no reason we shouldn't go there and have a go," he said. "They are at home and will look our recent results and see it as an opportunity to get three points."
