The Sentinel today reveals designs for the council’s kaleidoscope-style HQ – which creators say is inspired by Clarice Cliff pottery.

Construction is to begin in April on the first of two council office buildings in Hanley’s Central Business District (CBD).

Developer Genr8 today launches a public consultation on the offices, to be built on the site of the former Unity House.

It will replace civic buildings in Stoke, which are now up for sale.

Architects behind the plan say it will deliver energy efficiency and a ‘stunning skyline’.

Designer Michael Clark said: “Some people will gulp but more will see what we’re trying to achieve.”

“Services cut.. swimming baths shut .. council workers losing there jobs..other having pay cuts, city streets awash with litter....dilapidated parks..

spent 13 million pounds on another hideous new build the *bus station* which is under sized and behind schedule..

plus when the St Johns street car park closed losing thousand of pounds when it lay empty for months waiting for work to commence,

the council spent £250.000 pounds on a 20 space car for free staff parking in stoke last year knowing full well they had planned before hand to move to another 50 million pound white elephant,

back and the original birthplace of that disastrous faulty tower...which by the way!! is to be built on one of the busiest and worst designed junction "Tesco" Hanley.

    you couldn't make it up.”

“Yeah, great idea! Lets waste £40 million on a civic centre that nobody wants when the council are cutting jobs that famililes are desperate for to save £20 million.

Moral here: Loose the centre, keep the jobs, save £20 million.”

“This council stinks. The majority of people are against this new centre. Yet the council chooses to ignore them. This will leave Stoke as a ghost town. There idea that they will sell the site for development shows how clueless they are the old Stoke football ground which is in a better position is still derelict. Its about local Mps and non Labour councillors spoke up about this obscene waste of public money.”

“The council have to save 50 million in the next 2 years as the city is in debt yet they are having a loan for 49 million to build the new business centre isn't this like robbing Peter to pay Paul ? I just don't get it. The civic centre is a good building so why move people it's close to the station and closer to the motorways. Rebuild Stoke for a fraction of the price and keep Stoke as Stoke. Has this gone out to consultation ? Have they asked the people?. Will more services be cut ?”

“Seeing as the Council have £40 Million pounds why don't they continue to fund the talking books from the RNIB for the blind and partially sighted people of the city. The cost of which would only be a drop in the ocean compared to the waste of money on a new building.”
