PLC would not move for £40m
REGARDING the Civic Centre move to Hanley.
I pay business rates on two properties in Stoke and it seems to me there are two fundamental questions.
Firstly, is the Civic Centre in Stoke fit for purpose. If so, why is any move necessary?
I have read nothing that tells me it is not fit.

The only need for the administrative centre to be moved to Hanley is because it is perceived that such offices should be in the city centre.
The second fundamental question is very simple: If a PLC or large corporate employer had suitable purpose-built premises in one town, would they move three miles and spend around £40 million in building and relocating its offices?
The answer is 'no', and the only reason for such a move is because we, the ratepayers, are funding the move.
Surely if £40 million is available, the money would be better spent on services, or in retaining jobs for staff who are currently being made redundant?
