PC gets his job back after sack over 'punching'
POLICE officer Kieran Jones has been reinstated by Staffordshire Police.
The 30-year-old lost his job earlier this year after he was convicted last December of assaulting a teenager while on duty.
But earlier this month the conviction was overturned, and PC Jones asked Staffordshire Police for his job back. He is expected to return to duty soon.
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police confirmed PC Jones was back with the force. He said: "Kieran Jones has asked to be reinstated as an officer and, after reviewing his case, we have accepted his request. It is anticipated that he will return to duty in Stoke-on-Trent division in the very near future."
Staffordshire Police Federation supported PC Jones, from Alsager, throughout the court proceedings.
Chairman Mark Judson said he and his colleagues were shocked the officer was ever convicted. He said: "I won't go into the full circumstances, but it was quite bizarre that he was convicted.
"PC Jones has remained very dignified throughout it all. He has been philosophical when he would have been entitled to become very angry. The situation has had a considerable effect on his life. From my understanding he was a very committed officer who was very well thought of by his division and senior officers.
"He has walked away from court without a blemish on his character and I'm pleased he is going to be back on duty. I hope he will put this behind him now."
Asked if he thought PC Jones should ever have been prosecuted, Mr Judson said: "I can't really comment on that. I have a view, and I'm sure PC Jones has a view, and his sergeants have a view. But the Crown Prosecution Service decides on prosecutions."
PC Jones was given 12-week suspended prison sentence in December last year for allegedly punching 15-year-old Shane Wood after arresting him in Bentilee in 2007.
The officer, who was based at Hanley police station, was cleared following a three-day appeal at Birmingham Crown Court. The case against him collapsed after medical experts gave evidence to say Shane Wood's injuries could not have been caused by the alleged blow.
The prosecution cost PC Jones his dream of starting a new life with his young family in Australia, before the incident he had successfully applied to join South Australia Police.

“I see the criminals amongst us are on here, pushing their anti-police message.
If the "thin blue line" were to disappear, they would soon be on the side of law and order as the thin veneer of society disintegrated and murder, rape, destruction and anarchy rapidly took over.”

“I sit here reading some of your comments.
The police officer only did his duty and as many many people do when they get locked up is make a vindictive spurious comlaint in a bid to rob the officer of his job, which it did.
justice has prevailed and he has got it back.
Their ars thousands of police officers out their who serve you all, who put not only their jobs on the line, but in many cases their lives and all some people can do is moan
If you think you can do it, shut your fat moaning gobs, go and join the specials and see what shit they have to take day in day out
Good luck Police Constable K Jones well done”

“John Smith....either you have first hand knowledge of the cases you list, or, you clearly believe everything you read in the tabloids. I suggest it is the latter.
Yes I dare say that there are heavy handed bobbies. I dare say that there are ineffective bobbies.
But I can say for certain that there are ineffective shop workers, postmen, teachers, builders etc etc. We never get to read or hear of the bad shop assistant - it simply isn't sexy and doesn't sell papers.
As for the police being a waste of time, then this is pure nonsense. What wastes police time is the high volume of nonsense called in by the "jermemy kyle fodder" that breed within our society.”

“Mike Expat,
Kieron Jones seems as though he did get justice the lippy guy may have deserved a clip around the ear along with his parents but I believe regardless what the officers offence the out come would have been the same. They are the untouchables, entrusted with great powers with unlimited recourses to tap into to defend wrong doing. Justice will always prevail for officers. I do think they are the best tools for civil order we have and the majority do an excellent job protecting all and apprehending man y who do not share a common value. There are those within the Police like criminals target the vulnerable , confident that at worse a verbal chastisement awaits and the docking of a few days wage.
Jean Charles de Menezes how many bullets to the head? Yeah that was sending a message, Harry Stanley shot carry a chair leg, Carl Josephs stopped 34 times in his car, Jermain Defoe stopped twice in three days no offence made, Guildford Four, Birmingham Six, Bridgewater Four, Bridgewater Four, Cardif Three. Justice does prevail, my memory escapes me can anyone remember any police officer being convicted. As I stair into my glass sphere I see a similar outcome for the officer s involved with the killing of Ian Tomlinson. The guy caught up in the G20 protests.”

“Nina Stoke. Whilst agree with you in what you say we all call 999 in an emergency, but san is right there are too many out there that abuse their jobs i.e if that had been your husband, partner or what eva would he be walking the streets I dont think so.”

“Dan I found your comment absolutly ignorant and pathetic..Your either one of the following - the alleged agrieved party, a frustrated and failed applicant into the police or just another bitter, twisted and moaning individual. The police are the first people we call when we have an emergency, they work long and hard hours and have to put up with mindless abuse from people like you. you have no idea about the work a police officer does. Should you not be posting comments about the disgraceful family that made the complaint in the first place?? Lazy money scamming liars- disgusting, they should be ashamed of themselves..whats next for them? more claims I would imagine.”
