A local lady has landed a job a dream job at this summer's Olympic Games ahead of more than 10,000 other applicants nationwide thanks to the Street Games Programme.

Maddie Selman, 23 from Audley, started her position as Coca Cola's London 2012 Project Co-ordinator on Monday (February 6) having taken part in the Street Games project in Stoke-on-Trent. She is one of two successful applicants to get a position.

As part of her new job in the capital, Maddie will be part of a selection panel choosing performers including dancers, singers and acrobats to entertain the crowds at Olympic venues during the Games.

Maddie was told about the opportunity through Street Games and was selected following her initial application form where she explained why she wanted to be part of the Olympic Games. She then had to take part in a telephone interview followed by an evaluation weekend in Warwick and finally an interview in London before being offered the job.

Maddie said: "I was told of the opportunity by people from Street Games in Stoke-on-Trent. To get the job is just a dream come true. Obviously to have the biggest sporting event in the world in your own country and then to be part of it, is just amazing. This is a great chance for me and for the country to show the world what England can do."

Councillor Mark Meredith, cabinet member for economic development, said: "This is a tremendous opportunity for Maddie and to be part of something on this scale must be a dream come true for her.

"The Olympic Games has given opportunities for employment and incomparable experiences to people from all over the country including here in Stoke-on-Trent. We are looking forward to hosting the Flame on May 30 and gearing people up for the summer's events. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Maddie all the best with her role in London."

Stoke-on-Trent City Council announced in November last year that the Olympic Flame will be paraded through Shelton (May 30) and the City Centre, Cobridge, Burslem and Middleport (May 31). An evening celebration event will also take place in Hanley Park on Wednesday May 30. The London 2012 Olympic Games opens on Friday July 27, 2012 and closing on Sunday August 12, 2012.
