COUNCIL chiefs claim plans to privatise six council run nurseries are a 'fair' policy.

Staffordshire County Council's cabinet yesterday approved £1.5 million savings plans which will see nurseries at children's centres in Knutton, Biddulph and Stafford taken over.

Councillor Ian Parry, cabinet member for finance and deputy leader, said: "It's a fairness issue. We provide a tiny percentage of childcare at a taxpayer subsidised rate while everybody else pays market price."
