Non-league: Castle brush aside Blues cup challenge
LEEK Town crashed 4-0 at home to Newcastle Town in the first round of the Staffs Senior Cup.
Leek created the majority of the chances in the first half, but the visitors scored the goals in taking a 2-0 lead into the interval.
John Sheldon was first to strike from a free-kick on nine minutes, beating Scott Wiggins inside his right-hand post.
Matt Platt then added a second on 21 minutes when he punished a tame back pass by Richard Bailey.
Sheldon rattled the Leek woodwork early in the second half before Chris Boast made the score 3-0 on 57 minutes following a corner.
Leek substitute Dan Cope was brought down in the box as Newcastle conceded a penalty, but Ashley Miller's spot-kick was pushed round the post by Greg Smith.
Leek's night of woe was completed on 64 minutes when Platt scored his second goal of the night from 12 yards, and Blues finished with nine men after losing Miller and Steve Brannan to injuries having used their substitutes.
KIDSGROVE came from behind to beat Rushall Olympic 2-1 and cement second place in UniBond Division One South at the Seddon Stadium.
Tim Sanders hit the foot of a post for Grove before Rushall went ahead from a cross shot by Rory May on 26 minutes.
Liam Shotton then went close to levelling from a cross by Tom Moss, and it was Shotton who did eventually equalise a minute into the second half with a left-footer from the edge of the Rushall penalty box.
Rushall created a chance when Starkey went close with a glancing header, and Maguire wasted an even better opportunity before Grove grabbed the points on 80 minutes.
Matt Haddrell provided the through ball and substitute Dave Walker beat the offside trap to score from just inside the Rushall box.
In the first round of the Cheshire Senior Cup, NANTWICH TOWN beat Blue Square North side Hyde United 3-1 at the Weaver Stadium.
Liam Dawson set up Omar Mahmoud for the opening goal after 19 minutes and was also involved in Nantwich's strike second on 35.
Dawson fired a rasping free-kick from 30 yards against the crossbar and Sam Madeley scored from the rebound from outside the box.
Hyde reduced the arrears through Nathan Arnold on 63 minutes, but six minutes later Hyde goalkeeper Mike Jones only half cleared following a corner and Matt Rhead's powerful return shot was headed home by Madeley.
Also in the Cheshire Senior Cup, CONGLETON TOWN went down 4-0 at Runcorn Linnets, while ALSAGER TOWN lost 4-1 at UniBond Division One North side Woodley Sports.
Adam Wilson scored their consolation goal.
In the Aspire Midland Alliance League Cup, ROCESTER won 2-1 at Oadby Town in extra time.
James Curley gave Rocester an eighth-minute lead and Oadby only drew level at the death after having centre-back Lee Westley sent off on 35 minutes. Curley added his second three minutes into extra time to win the tie.
