Nikki Sinclaire's We Demand a Referendum party holds first conference
A NEW political party founded by one of North Staffordshire's Euro MPs used its first conference to insist the majority of people want a vote on Britain's EU membership.
The We Demand a Referendum party was launched last month by Nikki Sinclaire, a member of the European Parliament for the West Midlands.
The party, which has the slogan 'let the people decide', held its first conference in central London yesterday.
Ms Sinclaire, who quit the UK Independence Party (UKIP) to serve as an independent in 2010, said: "We have proven that six out of 10 people now want a referendum on this issue.

"It is time to let the people decide.
"If Mr Cameron won't give us a vote, then we will simply demand one at the 2014 European elections".
Ms Sinclaire revealed We Demand a Referendum is planning to put up election candidates in every region in 2014's European elections – unless Prime Minister David Cameron sets the date for a vote to decide whether or not the UK remains a member of the European Union.
The party's leading figures also include Roger Knapman – who led UKIP until 2006 – and former Apprentice star Katie Hopkins.
It claims not to be a single issue party and is also campaigning on issues such as traveller sites and fighting for small businesses.
UKIP, the party for which Ms Sinclaire was elected, admitted the party's 'heart was in the right place' but that it will 'sink without a trace.'
