PERVERT Mark Simcock lost his job of 31 years – after being caught performing a sex act at work, a court heard.

The 49-year-old was suspended for gross misconduct after a work colleague saw him carry out the act in 2011.

  1. Court

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard Staffordshire Police were called in and officers twice searched Simcock's home in June and July, 2011.

They found hundreds of child porn images in the raids.

After being arrested, Simcock told officers: "I can't believe I was so stupid looking at those stupid pictures."

In the second search, police recovered a computer which contained 217 indecent images of children and four movies.

These were made up of 185 level one images, 18 images at level two with three movies, six images at level three, six images and one movie at level four and two at level five – the most serious.

In his interview, Simcock admitted viewing indecent images of children out of curiosity. He said he thought images of children were disgusting and he did not know why he looked at them.

But he accepted performing the sex act on June 4, 2011 telling officers he had been chatting to a young female and looking at indecent pictures of adults.

Simcock, of Windermere Road, Newcastle, pleaded guilty to 16 charges of making indecent photos of children.

Stuart Muldoon, mitigating, said Simcock, who has no previous convictions, was 'disgusted' with himself.

"There is much stigma attached to offences of this nature. He now has that stigma attached to him," said Mr Muldoon.

"Curiosity turned into fascination and he would use the images for sexual gratification. He is ashamed."

The court Simcock has landed another job and has worked there for 18 months.

The company was aware of the court proceedings as Simcock had stood up and told about 40 colleagues what had happened. The court heard he has been ostracised by a few but continues to work there.

Judge Granville Styler said he did not think the public interest would be served by sending Simcock to prison.

Instead he sentenced him to four months in prison, suspended for two years, with 120 hours unpaid work. Simcock must also pay £1,200 costs and will be on the Sex Offenders' Register for seven years.

Judge Styler said: "You are a man of previous good character, You pleaded guilty at the first opportunity, you co-operated with the police, you have suffered humiliation, lost your job and it seems your marriage. That is a huge price to pay.

"But you know why the public are concerned about offences like this. For you to look at pictures of young children, it means someone has to take pictures and children are abused as a result."
