New hospital opens doors
AN OPEN week has been planned to promote a £5 million psychiatric hospital about to be unveiled in Stoke-on-Trent.
The St Augustine's Psychiatric Rehabilitation Unit in Cobridge has been built over the past two years on the site of former nursing home and refugee hostel.
Its 32 beds are for male patients aged from 18 to 65 who may have been sectioned under the Mental Health Act but need only low security. They may also be aiming to return to live in the community.
The open week will start on June 29 and culminate in a clinical presentation by a team of staff on July 1 between 11am and 1pm.
The development, owned by nationwide company Cambian Healthcare, has already created 50 jobs.
