MORE than £2 million of Government cash has been made available for affordable housing in a town.

Ian Austin, regional minister, said the West Midlands is being allocated £10 million to build an extra 200 affordable homes.

Of that, £2,012,000 is going to Stafford Borough Council.

Mr Austin said Government funding for house building in the West Midlands stands at almost £200 million since June.

He said: "Government-backed house building is not only helping to tackle the shortage of affordable homes across the region, but also supporting the construction industry when it needed it most – protecting and creating new jobs including apprenticeships.

"We are now seeing hundreds of new homes, many for low cost rent or sale, being built across the region."
