New group to find chief
A NEW committee will be tasked with appointing a permanent chief executive for Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
The authority announced on Wednesday that it has postponed moves to recruit a chief officer until June in the wake of the recent arrests of elected mayor Mark Meredith and councillor Roger Ibbs.

Minutes of last Wednesday's committee meeting show the decision to postpone the recruitment process was debated at length.
The panel sought advice from the council's monitoring officer, Paul Hackney, as well as Professor Michael Clarke, the chairman of the city's governance transition board.
The appointments committee will hand the recruitment role on to a newly-formed human resources committee in June.

“Let us hope that this HR committee has the personal and professional acumen to eliminate Chris Harman from the list of candidates.
If he told me my hair was on fire, i would run to the nearest mirror to check.”
