THE mysteries of Longton will be cleared up with the launch of a new book about the town.

Neckend: Old Town Tales That Others Have Missed describes little-known stories of achievement. The book will be launched by authors Ellis Bevan and Alan Myatt with a signing at Bevan's Sound Centre, The Strand, tomorrow between 10am and 2pm.

Mr Bevan said: "Neckend is a slang term for Longton and it was to dispel the derogatory term that the book was written.

"The things that have happened in Longton over the last 50 to 70 years have been amazing and the town has produced many famous people."

A hundred copies have already been sold.
