The Sentinel

RECENTLY my husband and I visited England on a trip of 33 pilgrims from our Methodist Church to visit John and Charles Wesley sites.

On a Sunday afternoon heading back to Buxton, we had two hours to tour the Wedgwood facility, including the museum. Oh my goodness. The museum is amazing!

Unfortunately, we had to tour it quickly to be able to spend some time in the shop and the boutique. Our group totally enjoyed the visit and many of us purchased items.

My husband is a descendant of a brother of Josiah's great-great grandfather.

I am reading the book, The Wedgwood Circle, 1730-1897, and find it completely fascinating. We sincerely hope the Wedgwood Museum will be saved, it is a great treasure. I would love to return and spend at least two hours on the museum alone.

Coming from a city that little values its past -- and indeed, endeavours to mow it down as often as possible -- visiting Great Britain with its beauty and history was the thrill of a lifetime.

The museum is excellently organised and beautifully presented. It is not just a pottery museum; it is truly a valuable slice of English history, representing one of the first manufacturing facilities of the Industrial Age and the contributions made by its family in the sciences and arts. It should be better promoted for tourism, not broken up and sold off.
