NINE-YEAR-OLD Ethan Cottingham is still off school, because there is no-one to look after him at lunchtimes.

The youngster, who has had a tracheostomy, had been a pupil at Blackfriars Special School, Newcastle, until the end of the last school year.

He was due to start at St Giles' and St George's Primary School, Newcastle, last month, but was told at the last minute he could not go until someone was found to supervise him.

Ethan was to stay at Blackfriars until care was in place, but his mum Julie Cottingham, of Pool Street, Newcastle, says he has no need to be at a special school and has been keeping him at home.

The cleaner, aged 41, said: "I'm furious and disgusted."

Staffordshire County Council supports Ethan's move and has said it is working to put support in place to meet his medical needs.

“Firstly I never approached the sentinel to do an update, second he is not off school due to my deciding to do this on a whim, the support in Blackfriars for Ethan namely the Cast Team stated he did not meet their criteria, therefore as agreed with Mr Liley, Headmaster of Blackfriars once a replacement carer is found he would of returned, the lack of lunch hour support is an issue in both schools, I did not even know this was in the sentinel till last night, I am trying to provide my child with the best possible outcome, this does not mean I disrespect Blackfriars in any way, I am grateful to them for the excellent schooling of Ethan over the last 5 years. Ethan currently receives 2hrs of in home schooling once a week, Ethan is severely tracheostomy dependant, not all children who have tracheostomies have the same degree of dependence, but ALL are vulnerable.”

“On reflection, Ethan's mother is continuing on her quest for for attention and self glory. She is a mere attention seeker similar to inadequate , low self esteemed, tatooed males , 4X4 drivers and Jordan. This is really a non news story and I support St G @ G's primary school on their stance.”

“Chris - Newstead: Shame that you didn't go to a better school where you could be taught spelling, punctuation and grammer!

No-one is saying this lad is anything but a nice person. The problem is his mother!

She seems attention seeking. She doesn't like the option(s) offered to her for her son. If she chooses to refuse it, then she is the one putting Ethan's education at risk.

I'm sure that Blackfrairs would give him a better education and therefore a better chance in life than most other options.

They would certainally be able to teach him spelling, punctuation and grammer better than you had!

Warren - where are you when Chris in Newstead needs a teacher?!?”

“Which does Julie put first? The BEST interests of her son, or getting her name in print?

Just look at the other things she has done: changing her surname, and that of her children, to be the same as a drug dealing killer in an American prison that she met on the internet.

He, typical wierdo, has suddenly called himself "SIR" Total Scumbag.

Where's the father(s) of her children? Why can he not help out if care is needed during lunch break?

Julie - stop attention seeking: either accept what you're offered or do as you promissed a year ago, and go to your beloved in America taking your tribe with you. You certainally won't be missed.

You Are In Need Of A Shrink - Good Bye!”

“Andrew i thin=k your comment is very small minded.

I knew Ethan when he was a very small child and was then and i'm sure still is a really nice lad.
we are told every child matters and the government wants inclussion so WHY is Ethan been segrigated through no fault of hiss own.
i hope Julie keeps up the pressure.
I know its no substitute by why is he not been offered home tuition by those in the education system?”
