Movie makers rekindle city's northern soul
FILMING has started on a major motion picture charting Stoke-on-Trent's Northern Soul scene during the 1970s.
The film, Souled Out, which will feature more than 1,000 extras from North Staffordshire, is being shot at a variety of locations around the city.
One of the main locations will be the King's Hall, which is being used to replicate the legendary Wigan Casino, which shut in 1981, where much of the action takes place.
Souled Out tells the story of Stoke City fan Joe McCain, who learns about life and love through the music.
Movie makers Ipso Facto Films are based in the city throughout the filming, which started yesterday.
The film crew has been busy making period costumes and designing and preparing the sets.
The movie stars Martin Compston (Sweet Sixteen) in the lead role of Joe and Alfie Allen (Atonement) – brother of singer Lily – who will play best friend Russ.
