ROBBIE Brown finished the motorcycle racing season on a high, after winning the final round of the National Superstock 600 Championship.

It left the Biddulph speedster delighted with his year's work, which saw him finish second overall in the standings.

But he now faces an uncertain few months before discovering whether he will be racing in 2009.

The 19-year-old had gone into the final two races of the season at Brands Hatch with the title still up for grabs.

However, his championship dream hinged on Northern Ireland's Lee Johnston finishing out of the points in both races.

As it was, his title hopes were over after the first race when he could only finish sixth, with Johnston claiming the championship by taking third spot.

However, Brown still managed to end the season on the podium by claiming victory in the second race.

Brown said: "We changed a few things to the suspension for the second race and it helped.

"I got a good start and managed to keep fourth position for a while, then just put my head down to see if I could catch the leaders.

"After a while I was in a duel with Matt Bilton for second spot, and we were eating into leader Jimmy Hill's advantage. Then Jimmy came off, he was obviously pushing it a bit too much, and I seized my chance to take the lead.

"From there I was determined that I would win it, and I had half a second in hand at the finish line."

It was Brown's fourth race win of the series, following successes at Oulton Park, Donington and Croft.

But his success puts him in a quandary as he will be ineligible for the Superstocks next season.

He said: "If you finish in the top three in the championship you can't do it again, so the only possibility for next season is for me to race in the British Superbikes or the Supersport Championship.

"With both championships you're talking about finding more than £100,000, so it's a big ask."

Brown added: "I think I've done all I can do on the track to try to convince a team to take me on for next year.

"It was my first year in the Superstock 600 and I finished second overall, winning a third of the races, which I'm really pleased with.

"Now it's down to me to try to find a place for 2009. I've been handing out business cards and putting a presentation together, and hopefully I will convince someone to give me a chance."

Sam Owens finished 16th in the final round of the Supersport Championship.

The Stafford rider, on a Premier Motorsport Honda, finished the season in 21st place overall, having picked up points in just four races.

Sandbach's Phil Wakefield was 20th in the British 125 Grand Prix on his PW Racing Honda, taking 24th spot overall in the championship.
