Motorists fined in safety spot checks
LAW enforcement agencies have pledged to continue with spot check operations after dozens of cars and lorries were scrutinised.
Staffordshire Police officers teamed up with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) and officials from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council's environmental services team for two operations this week.
And they have warned that they will continue to target motorists who flout the laws of the road.
PCSO Adam Tonks, from Cheadle Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: "We are continually working to make roads safer for all.
"Anyone caught flouting the law will be dealt with appropriately."
On Wednesday, the operation was at Cheadle Road, Cheddleton, between 9am and 2pm.
One motorist was fined £60 for having no MOT and another fined £60 and three penalty points for having a bald tyre on their vehicle.
VOSA issued 12 prohibition notices for unroadworthy vehicles needing an urgent MOT and seized a trailer with no brakes.
And council checks of 66 vehicles found one without the correct waste carrier licence. If it is not produced within two weeks, a £300 fine will be imposed.
On Monday, a similar operation on the A522 Uttoxeter Road near Checkley saw motorists targeted for speeding, not wearing seatbelts, driving while using a mobile phone and safety concerns.
Staffordshire Police has asked anyone with concerns to call 0300 123 44 55.

“Dave, stoke. You clearly have no knowledge of the Road Traffic Act of emergency vehicle exemptions. There is no requirement for a police vehicle to have its siren on when responding to an emergency. Police are exempt from wearing seatbelts in certain circumstances. I have never heard of a police officer Drink driving in a patrol car.
Before you comment again, i'd recommend you carry out some basic research to save you looking an absolute fool.”

“Is there any truth in the story doing the rounds that VOSA are targeting Blue badge holders, as the council has asked for a purge on this scrounge of society.”

Does this include the police, that....Speed without their sirens on and kill people, drink drive, drive using their mobile phones and no seatbelts.
Probably not.”

“more punishment for the working man lets get every last penny out of them before they have chance to treat themselves for what little they may have left after paying tax and other money out, while the police let the scum on benefits drink on the streets and do what ever”
