Moorlands in brief
MOORLANDS: Staffordshire Moorlands District Council is investigating renewable energy options to try to reduce its carbon footprint.
Consultants have been commissioned to focus on eight council-owned properties, including the council headquarters in Leek.
Other buildings include the leisure centres in all three Moorlands towns, Fowlchurch depot and the Butter Market, both in Leek.
The leisure centres and Moorlands House made up 92 per cent of the total carbon dioxide emissions.
A working group is now to carry out feasibility studies into renewable energy options which would be technically and financially feasible.
PEAK DISTRICT: An organ society is celebrating its 10th anniversary in the spring.
Pipes In The Peaks, which is based at Dovedale Garage in Thorpe, started from one man's dream to own a cinema organ.
The ex-Regal Derby Compton Cinema Organ owned by David Thorpe has now been restored and is housed in the showroom at the garage.
The group is marking its tenth anniversary with a commemorative concert on Saturday, April 4.
KINGSLEY: Residents can air any community concerns at a meeting of the parish council, at the village hall at 7.15pm tomorrow.
TEAN: Punch Taverns has submitted plans to build seven homes on the site of the derelict Cross Keys pub.
The Cheadle Road pub closed in July 2007.
A decision on the application is expected from the district council by February 4.
LEEK: The town's Rotary Club is holding its annual swimathon on March 14 and 15.
Teams can raise funds for a charity of their choice as well as Rotary charities.
LEEK: Plans to build a house at Cheddleton Road, Birchall, have been recommended for approval at Thursday's meeting of the district council's planning committee, despite reservations from councillors about the impact of the development on the character of the area.
