MORE than £950,000 could be spent on debt advice services in Staffordshire during the next four years.

Staffordshire County Council's cabinet is expected to approve the inflation-proof funding for the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) at a meeting tomorrow.

The service's current funding agreement with the authority comes to an end this month.

And the new deal is expected to focus on debt advice, service improvement, demand management and value for money.

The CAB will receive £238,730 each year, taking the total four-year agreement to £954,920.

And the news comes after the service received an extra £150,000 from the county council in September to reduce waiting times for clients to see money advice caseworkers.

A report prepared for tomorrow's cabinet meeting said: "The CAB and the county council will work together to improve services by actively promoting national helplines to free up caseworkers' time, supporting county-wide improvements to web access, telephone contact and email arrangements with the CAB, for debt and more general inquiries."
