Modern family home a truly peaceful retreat for owners
T HIS four-bedroom detached house which has just come onto the market is an oasis of calm – inside and out. Nestling near the end of a cul-de-sac makes it remarkably peaceful and secluded.
The house at 7, Mountsorrel Close, Trentham, has been home to Ken and Kath Dennis since 1988 and they clearly love the area. Ken, 71, a partner in Churnet Valley Drinks Ltd, says: "We shall really miss this area, not just Trentham, but this road and this location. It is perfect."
In fact, it is perfect for any family which values being tucked away from the hurly-burly, but within minutes of all the amenities in terms of shops, schools, restaurants and main roads which buyers factor into their decision making.
As I was visiting the house and Ken was telling me about its peaceful location I was conscious that the only noise other than his voice was the clock ticking on the lounge wall and later, in the big garden which backs on to the Trent and Mersey canal, two blackbirds were chirping away – but those apart it is indeed every bit as hushed as Ken says.
The house is spacious, light and warm. Over the past 18 months the bathroom, kitchen, downstairs cloakroom/w.c and the en suite shower room for the master bedroom have all been renewed and laminate flooring laid in the lounge, the dining room and conservatory. It is obviously a very well cared for home and is in excellent condition.
Downstairs is the entrance hall, the new fitted kitchen which overlooks the garden and sports a very useful cubby hole under the stairs, the dining room which is light on account of the conservatory next to it and then an unusually large lounge.
Climbing the stairs from the dining room to the first floor, the house has a master bedroom at the front with a double shower and another neat little cubby hole, and both this and the second bedroom have large, fitted double wardrobes.
You soon notice that one thing this house is not short of is storage space!
There are two more good sized bedrooms and a smaller one which is currently used as an office but is easily big enough to be a small single, giving you the four bedrooms. The bathroom is virtually brand new and above all of this is the loft, fully insulated and with some boards in for more storage.
O ne further aspect which struck me is that it is not overlooked anywhere – something that is not always the case on a housing estate.
This is one of those homes where the outside is almost as impressive as the inside.
There is a small front garden and a drive probably big enough to take several cars, which leads via some wooden gates to a double garage/workshop which has lights, power sockets and is alarmed for security.
Ken says that the garden is actually the biggest on the estate and I would take him at his word on this. He has made a large raised and covered seating area, perfect for enjoying an evening drink or barbecue, and there is room too for a large shed and greenhouse which also has power to it.
This is, though, a relatively low maintenance garden and one to be enjoyed rather than be a slave to.
It is on the market at £250,000 and has literally only just been put up for sale in the last few days.
Ken adds: "We have been very happy here and will really miss this location, but at our time of life we want to move into a bungalow and somewhere smaller.
"If we could find that property here I would buy it tomorrow because with it being so quiet, having the canal behind and the towpath which is nice for walks, yet with all the facilities that people want being just down the road, I can't think of a nicer, better place. It is a lovely home in a lovely neighbourhood.''
