Members reassured over Britannia Building Society merger

BRITANNIA members quizzed the building society's chief executive last night over plans to merge with Co-operative Financial Services (CFS).

Directors at the Leek business want to create a 'super-mutual' by joining forces with Manchester-based CFS.

They say a merger would lead to an ethical organisation with £70 billion of assets, nine million customers, more than 12,000 employees and 300-plus branches.

    “This will be the end of Britannia and the quality products it offers.
    The only people to benefit will be the bosses with very large payouts no doubt.”
