Meeting on doormat ban
COUNCIL tenants who live in flats will meet housing officials to discuss the ban on welcome mats and carpets in their porches.
The controversial new health and safety rule was revealed by The Sentinel last month.
Hundreds of tenants were sent letters demanding they remove all doormats, pot plants, carpets and personal belongings from their porches because they created trip hazards and fire risks.
Some residents of Port Vale Court and Arthur Cotton Court in Hamil Road, Burslem, have objected to the new rules. An open meeting will take place at Port Vale Community Centre tonight at 6pm to discuss the rules.
Representatives from the council will be present.

“Oh Yeah, I forgot, when the council official turns up for the meeting, tell him/her to wipe thier feet before they enter the room or it might wet the floor and create a health and safety hazard, and we can't have that now can we?”

“Oh My God, whatever next, this just has to be a joke (Tell me it is). I have heard the council come out with some stupid petty things in my time, but this really is going to extreme. Maybe they want extra rent to hire the space for the door matt. Is it written in thier tennacy agreement that they can't have a door matt or a potted plant outside? Folks, you had better check your small print (yer know, the small print what small minded council officials hide in the tennancy agreement). What the hecks up with people these days? Has the world gone completely mad? or is it just me who thinks so. I have a door matt outside my front door and also one just inside the front door and nobody has ever tripped on them and I've done that for years. Whoever thought of this should either get some real work done or be sacked.”
