Manor duo show right spirit to win black belts
OLIVIA Harper and Zachary Salmon showed they have the mind to match their skills by earning their black belts.
The Fenton Manor Taekwondo duo impressed in a two-day course in Swindon, when students took part in a spirit test as well as their grading.
Both Harper, aged 11, and Salmon, aged 12, passed to become new first Dan black belts.
Instructor Mark Chadwick said: "The spirit test does exactly that, it is not just about fitness but about giving every task 100 per cent and encouraging others to do the same.
"I was naturally very pleased with the results and especially for Olivia and Zachary, who found time to teach younger students while training for their own grading."
The duo's success crowned a memorable few months for Fenton Manor.
Morgan Coops, aged 11, from Trentham, and Jenna Baxter, aged 14, from Congleton, selected for England in November's World Championships.
Adam Hughes achieved his third Dan black belt and also became an instructor, while 17-year-old Katie Ware's all-round displays saw her named the club's student of the year.
The club is now open to new members.
