Man taken to hospital after Stoke-on-Trent A50 crash

A MAN has been taken to hospital following a road traffic collision in Stoke-on-Trent this morning.

The incident occurred on the A50 at Checkley Bank shortly after 8.10am.

An ambulance, two rapid response vehicles, a paramedic area support officer and a doctor were dispatched to the scene.

It is believed the male driver, in his late 30's, had lost control of the silver Mazda vehicle, which ended up on its roof in the carriageway/layby.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival at the scene crews found a single vehicle that had overturned.

“The driver, a man believed to be in his late 30’s, was trapped in the vehicle for a period of time.

“Once freed, with the assistance of the fire service, ambulance personnel treated the man for head and chest injuries at the scene.

“The man was fully immobilised and conveyed to University Hospital of North Staffordshire for further assessment and treatment.

“The doctor travelled on board the ambulance continuing to provide emergency medical treatment whilst on route to hospital.

“The hospital had been pre-alerted to the arrival of the man and of his injuries.”

Following the crash the road was closed.

Traffic was diverted on the A522 towards Cheadle until the road was reopened at 10.20am.

Staffordshire Police have issued an appeal for witnesses following the incident.
