A MAN has died after being hit by a train.

Emergency crews were called to the railway line near Trentham Road, Trentham, just before 1pm yesterday.

The man, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by the 11.20am London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly service.

A post-mortem examination was expected to be carried out later today.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "A man had been struck by a train.

"Officers are now working to determine the identity of the man and the circumstances surrounding the death.

"At this stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Crews arrived to find a pedestrian and a train had been in collision.

"Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene."
