A MAN was killed and another seriously injured following a car crash last night.

The collision happened at 6.45pm on the A34 Newcastle Road in Astbury, near Congleton.

A blue Ford Fiesta travelling towards Scholar Green was in collision with a red Citroen going in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Fiesta, a 35-year-old local man, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the other vehicle, a 62-year-old from the Congleton area, received serious injuries and was taken to Macclesfield District General Hospital.

Cheshire Police's Specialist Investigation Unit, based in Crewe, is dealing with the incident and has asked for witnesses, particularly the driver of an agricultural vehicle who may have witnessed the collision, to call 01244 613328.
