Man hit by train at Barlaston
A MAN has been airlifted to hospital after being struck by a train at a level crossing in Staffordshire.
The incident happened at 9.45am today at the Station Road crossing, in Barlaston, when a pedestrian is understood to have stepped on to the track. He was hit by the 9.07 Manchester Piccadilly to Bristol train.
Other rail services were diverted away from this stretch of the West Coast Main Line after Network Rail closed the track to deal with the emergency.
Paramedics and British Transport Police were also called to the scene. The air ambulance landed in a nearby field and took the injured man to hospital.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: "There are no details about the nature of the male's injuries at the moment. The incident is not being treated as suspicious."
The alarm was raised by a railway controller after hearing reports of an accident on the line.
Network Rail said a rail incident manager was currently at the site. It is not yet known if the train involved in the incident has been allowed to continue its journey.

“I take it some of you have no human feelings at all. I only hope the poor man is ok, and not reading some of the crass comments displayed hear.”

“Even if it were the man's own fault I feel very sorry for him and his family and friends. On the other hand I have no sympathy for the view that it's OK for people to ignore the warning lights and bells because they are impatient. What on earth can be so important that people are willing to risk their, and other peoples lives to save a few minutes?”

“How can people be so callous, until the full report is done no-body knows why, but also if he was having a breakdown , he needs sympathy not narrow minded comments”

“You may well be right Rob but what happened to 'giving him the benefit of the doubt'. Or in your opinion do you not think there is any doubt?”

“how can it be a accident? the warning sounds and barrier goes down at least 1 mins before a train gets there. so why from that point would he be on the lines a minute+ later? he gambled and lost”

“Flippin 'eck - nobody knows yet what happened - you are very quick to judge and decide it was 'disgusting behaviour'. It could have been a complete accident. The person is lucky to be alive. Show some sympathy for goodness sake!”
