THIRTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD Adrian Wintle has been fined after he assaulted a man who had previously had an affair with his wife.

North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court heard Wintle went to collect his wife from work on February 7 and saw her talking to Andrew Pauffley, who she had previously had an affair with.

"Wintle approached Mr Pauffley, grabbed him with both hands by the scruff of the neck," said prosecutor Steve Knowles.

"He told Mr Pauffley 'You've got five minutes to get out of Stoke-on-Trent or I am going to put you in a body bag'.

"He threw him to the floor, ripping the collar off his coat."

Wintle, of Eastbourne Road, Northwood, pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage.

Andrew Turnock, mitigating, said Wintle went to offer his wife a lift home.

"Unbeknown to him she had met Mr Pauffley. He was shocked and upset. He accepts he grabbed hold of him."

Mr Turnock added that Wintle's relationship with his wife is now behind him.

District Judge David Taylor fined Wintle £280 and ordered him to pay £45 compensation, £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

“Strange how every one rails against the man as if the woman had nothing to do with it. She was the one doing the cheating on her husband, not the bloke she did it with.”

“Any man would have done the same. The husband should've thumped him a bit harder, made it worth the £280 - the compensation and "victim" surcharge must've stung a bit though, seeing as the husband is the aggrieved party.

I really must spend an afternoon in Burton Stores with gary, it all happens in there.”
