Man dies after car hits a tree near Stafford

A man has died after his car crashed into a tree.

The incident happened at about 1.25pm yesterday when a car left the A518 near Haughton, between Gnosall and Stafford, and collided with a tree.

The man who was driving the car, a blue Ford Focus, was pronounced dead at the scene. Staffordshire Police say formal identification has yet to take place.

His car was travelling towards Haughton when the collision happened half a mile from Bradley Lane, on the Stafford side.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved and no-one else was in the Focus.

A section of the road was closed in both directions until around 3.30pm following the collision.

Witnesses are asked to ring Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 325 of November 14.
