MPs appeal demand to repay cash
STAFFORDSHIRE MPs Rob Flello and Bill Cash have reportedly lodged appeals after being told to pay back some of their Parliamentary expenses.
The pair were among 70 MPs yesterday named as having made the move ahead of the publication of Sir Thomas Legg's report into the expenses scandal later this week.
The report, due to be made public on Thursday, is expected to name more than 300 MPs who were found to have made "improper" claims during the period 2004-2008.
Last year it was revealed Stone MP Mr Cash paid his daughter more than £15,000 for her London flat in 2004/05 – despite owning a home nearer to Westminster himself.
He has already agreed to pay back that amount, but has not yet revealed if he has been asked to repay anything else.
Stoke-on-Trent South MP Mr Flello avoided much of the controversy.
In the three years following his election in 2005 he claimed between £14,000 and £16,000 for rent on a London flat.
That dropped to around £10,000 in 2008 when he moved to a budget hotel.
Neither MP was available for comment last night, but Mr Flello told The Sunday Telegraph that, after he appealed, he was told he had nothing to pay back.

“I emailed the Conservative leader when Cash was first caught out. It was fine, I was told, as he had repaid the money and apologized, therefore for he is forgiven. Who is Cameron to forgive this dishonesty? I understand that Cash is a very rich man, so why does he feel the need to cheat us taxpayers?”

“Greedy pigs the lot of them, and now they have been caught out they're winging and wining, they should be grateful they are not being treated like an ordinary member of the public, because such fraud would end up with a criminal record and possibly jail. They should just pay up and go quietly while they have the chance.”
