STONE MP Bill Cash has backed residents in their fight to stop wind turbines being built in the heart of their community.

Severn Trent Water was revealing details of its plans for up to three wind turbines on land at Aston Hall Farm, at Aston-by-Stone, at a consultation meeting being staged later today.

Its exhibition was being held at Aston Village Hall, near Stone, between 10am and 4pm.

Mr Cash, pictured, said: "I will fight tooth and nail against the proposals, which are irresponsible and contrary to public interest.

"They are backed by subsidies and will destroy the environment in the whole of the Aston area and Stone itself.

"I will fight the proposals all the way. I will appear at any public inquiry and will do everything personally to stop this desecration of Stone taking place."

Severn Trent has organised the consultation to get feedback and answer residents' questions about the proposals.

A spokesman said: "The exhibition will showcase a selection of pictures and photographs on the location and design of the proposed wind turbines."
