The Sentinel

I WOULD like to point out to Gary Elsby ('Flello's reasoning was embarrassing', The Sentinel, February 11) that this country has developed very well while having Christianity as the bedrock of our society.

It seems that only since Christianity was removed from our schools that the rot set in.

I was very pleased when I heard that gay men and women could be joined together in a civil partnership.

It must have made a huge and welcome difference regarding inheritance taxes for them and it put gay men and women on an equal footing with men and women who were joined together in marriage. This is between a man and a woman in order that any children they are fortunate to bear will have a secure upbringing.

I don't know why Mr Elsby thinks that an MP should resign simply because the MP has a different view to himself. That is not democracy, but neither is what Mr Cameron is planning to do.

“And it also has to said that Mr. Flello in no way represents Gary Elsby who 1. Dose not live in Stoke on Trent South and 2. is now in no way part of the Labour party, no matter what he says. I will add that I myself have had a chance to talk with Mr, Flello and although he did not vote the way I would have done, I respect the reasons why he voted against the bill and accept them as what he thinks is right.”

“Christianity is and always has been the foundation of these great islands of ours!!

Even though it has only existed for less than 2000 years, and not since man first arrived here.

Even though it is not indigenous to these islands and originated in the same place as Judaism and Islam, and was brought here by the Romans.

    I give up!!”

“Day men and women should be allowed to marry full stop! Your comment that 'It seems that only since Christianity was removed from our schools that the rot set in' however is absolutely rubbish. Also please explain how Christianity was/is the bedrock of our society? It hasn't been for years as most educated people realise that they do not need to rely on a faith in order to live”
