*STOP THE BUILDING OF A NEW CIVIC CENTRE*
*RAISE POLITICAL AWARENESS IN STOKE-ON-TRENT*
During one of the worst recessions in living memory, impacting severely on Stoke-on-Trent, the city council have resolved to borrow AT LEAST £40m to build state of the art offices in Hanley abandoning the current Civic Centre in Stoke. There are grave concerns that there doesn't seem to be a robust business plan to justify the move to the Central Business District and its potential failure will leave the council taxpayers of Stoke-on-Trent with a massive bill which will affect the quality of life of future generations.
Meanwhile the ordinary people of Stoke-on-Trent continue to face the most severe hardship due to central and local government cuts. Loss of libraries, swimming pools, care homes, children's centres, community centres and much of the city's heritage are transforming the city into place people wish to leave. While officers and councillors talk about a city centre to rival Manchester and Birmingham at a time when the high street is in free fall, with online shopping and dating on the up, the quality of life of the city's residents continues to fall, as highlighted in the BBC4 documentary The Year The Town Hall Shrank.
If you support this cause's objectives please make your feelings known on the 23rd February by joining the MARCH ON STOKE from Hanley's NORSACA car park (behind the Victoria on the Square pub) to KINGSWAY Stoke. The March starts at 11.30 and should reach Kingsway about 12.
NOTE - THIS IS A RESIDENTS' MARCH - TOTALLY UNAFFILIATED TO ANY POLITICAL GROUP
OBJECTIVES / GOALS OF THIS GROUP
To remind councillors and officers that they work for us, not the reverse.
To remind councillors that it is they who should be driving policy in Stoke-on-Trent not unelected civil servants who often feel little sense of attachment with the city.
Halt the building of a new civic centre; the existing Civic Centre is fit for purpose.
Raise political awareness across Stoke-on-Trent so that in local elections ALL residents vote, first and foremost, for the person and not the party they represent

“Please thank god, which ever one you believe in or not... the sun, the river, the moon, the footie team, the effigy... I really don't care, I have prayed for this day for years, for all the people of Stoke-on-Trent we deserve better : It's not just the lack of leadership, the gross inefficiency, the waste, the lack of clear strategy, the shear audacity, the wanton selfishness, the political paranoia, the lies, the corruption, the blatant self-serving, the victimisation of families who complain, vindictive use of our money against us, the misappropriation of funds, the unaccountability, the lack of business initiative, the personal self promotionism, the total absolute disregard for the people views, absurd manner in which planning is carried out, twisting or and lack of consultations on any proposal, the ignorant disregard for the traditions of Stoke-on-Trent, the marginalisation of the people of the city in every significant event or celebration, the propensity to suffocate any thing good that happens and the constant battle it seems to want to wage against the ordinary resident and council tax payer of the city, but its this absolutely gum biting ,fists clenching, teeth grinned frustrating inability to accept that they are wrong about the demolition, the pollution, the city planning, the decision on services, the implementation of national policy regards adult education, housing renewal and children's services. The problem is, as I see it, that there is too much power consolidated in to few hands, a lack of accountability and both councillors and directors ill equipped for the job. I have nothing against Labour, I am not affiliated to any party but if we as Stokies continue to blindly vote Labour every time an election rears, then they 'the Labour dominated council' have no impeding sanctions over their political decisions making as they will merely be re-elected whatever mistakes they make. We must end the one party state in Stoke-on-Trent, diversify politically with new parties new people new faces and fresh approaches. Let face we can't do any worse then al most constant one party domination of the council for the last 50 years. I am not a Marcher type of person but I will be marching on Saturday in the hope that one day one find glorious day 'we the people' can 'March on England.' Peacefully!”

“my comments were not intended to be racist , I want us to be aware that this march could be hijacked by certain elements with intent to cause trouble in "sensitive" areas . I want this march to be a peaceful but forceful one”

“Perhaps an advert in the sentinel like the council's done maybe the traders around stoke would contribute.”

“There are those of us who simply despair at the lack of true leadership in this city. A good leader does not ignore the wishes of the electorate. A good leader does not insist on all his minions voting with him. A good leader allows a FREE vote.
The party whip is slowly destroying democracy in national government, it should never be used in local government.
I support the march and I'll be there on the day!”

"Lets remember that this march will be through Shelton and its large Islamist population , so letts be careful out there ...." -Unquote.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt -and consider that you think that wanting a Council out of Office on the grounds that it-and especially its Leader are incompetent and inept, is not based on that at all, but based on the fact that the Leader is a Muslim?
You on a 'cheap wind-up'? Yes, we know you are, but this is not the time for wind-ups. The people are suffering more than you seem to realise -and its those at the bottom -the most vulnerable who are suffering the most -the callous Council bring in deliberate policies that section of our community -who are least able to protect themselves -OR STAND UP TO THEM.
That's why Alan Barrett and his friends are organising this 'Walk'. The sole reason. If it was a 'Pink Pervez' -the feeling would be exactly the same -He, and his 'self-interested toadies' -HAVE TO MAKE WAY FOR A NEW SET OF PEOPLE TO RUN OUR CITY. Things have gone from bad to worse -and the way they are SPLASHING OUR MONEY AWAY ON 'new grand civic offices in the move to Hanley -says it all.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH -say so on the 23rd And you will find Muslims on the March too -I know some myself who totally disagree with Pervez's Politics. They are beginning to realise that they've been conned -led up the garden path by their naive parents who 'BELIEVED THE LABOUR MESSAGE'.”

“Everyone out there get off your backsides and stand up and be counted by showing your support against a council that's hammering the nails into the coffin that holds our future by saddling us all with debts for the next 10 years. Open your eyes and show them they can't walk all over you with total disregard. It's OUR City,YOUR City. Do not go gentle into that good night.”

Between 10am and 3pm yes. Watch it 'explode' into life again after that. Are Stoke at Home?”
