A LORRY fire has today closed the A500 in Stoke-on-Trent.

Firefighters closed a section of the road between Cliffe Vale and Etruria after being called out to reports of a lorry blaze on the northbound dual carriageway at 4.17am this morning.

Crews have now left the scene and the northbound carriageway has reopened.

However, one lane still remains closed, resulting in slow moving traffic, and the Highways Agency has said the road is unlikely to fully open before 7pm.

Crews have now left the scene, but the Highways Agency has said the road will remain closed in a northbound direction while emergency repair work is carried out.

A LORRY fire has closed a section of the A500.

Firefighters closed a section of the road between Cliffe Vale and Etruria after being called out to reports of a lorry blaze on the northbound dual carriageway at 4.17am this morning.

The lorry was carrying a load containing flammable gas and a quantity of pallets.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said the fire had been contained although the road is likely to remain closed for repairs to the carriageway surface.

“kjhgfd I think some accidents involve, rather than are caused by lorries.Have you ever tried stopping one when some dipstick( in a daytime allowed car )cuts you up?
    Thought not!”

“Further to my previous posting, how about going the whole hog and developing a monorail system, controlled via satellite (becoming quite common these days) which would attract industry and commerce and make the world sit up and take notice.

Think Big! Stoke is surrounded by beautiful countryside and could expand into a city to be proud of. Forget the little, irritating problems and concentrate on the main issues. Let's get the City(Sity ?)”

“Why can't loop line be reintated for light rail link, sorry but anything built on it will have to go.
Also why can't a road through Festival Park site be continued to Porthill which would run parallel to A500 and be able to provide a relief alternative for part of A500 route.

What about the Botteslow road to Berry Hill and Fenton- oh sorry that is another story. Then the Berry Hill kids might be able to get to the Sixth form site easier. Sorry in a fantasy again.”

“All this moaning is only for moaning sake. Just a knee jerk reaction to a bit of discomfort and delay. Once you've all got it off your chest you'll all put back on your apathetic heads and goggle at the box 'til bedtime.
If you were really fed up, then you'd ALL vote -instead of only 1 in 5 of you (or just over). I never take all this moaning stuff seriously -too full of froth with no substance.

What's wanted to wake you lot up is lots more chaos like this morning. Loads of it weekly -daily even; then perhaps you'll all start getting real.... and doing something about it..... of yer idle fat apathetic ****s.”

“nelson1 - Thought I was just being a grump when I had the same problem with people pushing in after I and lots of other people had sat in the traffic for ages, glad it wasn't just me who was peed off with selfish oinks who thought they had the right to jump traffic queues as if they were the only people who had to be somewhere! As for taxis, what gives them the right to push in traffic, some of us have to be at work, unlike the passengers you ferry around!!”
