Lorna Bailey: Titanic response to pottery’s figure of ill-fated captain
ART pottery firm Lorna Bailey’s collection commemorating Hanley-born Titanic captain Edward Smith sold out on the day it was launched.
Pieces commemorating the late steeplejack and TV personality Fred Dibnah, launched on the same day, was also sold out.
The firm, in Wedgwood Street, Burslem, will now make more pieces for both collections in order to satisfy demand.

The success of the two collections means the company will now produce 200 Captain Smith and 300 Fred Dibnah pieces in different colours.
Mr Dibnah’s widow Sheila attended the launch, along with Don Smith, great-nephew of the Titanic’s master.Captain Smith.Mr Bailey said: “They are well received by our customers. We did so many of each for the launch and sold out of them on the day. We were delighted.”
