RUGBY: Staffordshire will play their home National under-20 Championship match against North Midlands at Longton.

County bosses have penned in the tie for Trentham Fields next Wednesday (7.30pm).

Staffordshire travel to Mansfield on February 29 (7.30pm) for their second group game against Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire.

CYCLING: Off-roader Simon Lees shrugged off a mechanical problem to finish 10th overall in the West Midlands Cyclo-cross League.

The Stone Wheelers rider was thwarted by thick mud in the last race of the season at Baggeridge Country Park, Dudley, and had to finish his campaign on foot.

But the Cheadle rider's displays over 11 races in the 13-event series meant he collected 656 points and make the top 10.

Kingswinford's Neil Hayward (sportstest.co.uk) took the title with a haul of 901 points.

BOWLS: The Florence Winter Series has fallen foul of the freezing conditions for the second week running.

Organiser John Large said: "The green is like concrete. We will hope for better weather next week."

Meanwhile, the annual meeting and presentation night of the Potteries and District County Bowls Association will be held on Wednesday at Milton Recs Bowling Club (8pm).
