Local charity’s plea for help answered
Two
local businesses have joined forces to raise money for the Crewe based
charity LATH Group following the organisations urgent appeal for help in raising
funds. The team of volunteers at LATH (Looking after the Homeless) work to ease the plight of the homeless in the Crewe area, with the long
term aim of eliminating it altogether, however in recent weeks their activity
has been hampered by a lack of funds.
Sales and marketing agency Caluna, and Balterley
based retailers of beer and real ale, Best of British Beer have teamed up to hold
a Pop Up Beer Festival' this Thursday in an attempt to raise much needed funds
which will be used to support the LATH Group with a number of time critical
activities they have planned over the coming months.
John Dutton, Project Advisor at LATH Group emphasised
the importance of the local community working together to help the homeless and
needy: "In the current state of the UK economy, within a global
recession, more and more people are finding themselves homeless,
and sadly Crewe is no different. We have a number of projects underway at the
moment which are making a real difference to the lives of homeless and needy
people in the local area. However, without the funds to support the cause we
would be unable to provide support, shelter and advice to those who really need
it."
Current LATH Group project s include the refurbishment of the
showers at The Salvation Army, weekly soup kitchens, provision of overnight and
temporary accommodation, whilst their long term work seeks to provide advice
and direction so that homeless people can find permanent accommodation.
John added: "With the cold snap due imminently we will
be working hard to help keep as many homeless people off the streets as
possible. We rely heavily on the generosity of local businesses and are
incredibly grateful to Caluna and Best of British Beer for arranging this
fundraising event." Caluna have designated LATH Group as their chosen charity
for 2012 and will be holding a host of events throughout the year to raise
ongoing funds for the charity.
