The ex-newsman's here to find out what it's like to live under the shadow of the death penalty, visiting the room where the executions take place, seeing the holding cell where prisoners spend their last few hours, and the bed where they're strapped down and injected.
Inmates can spend up to 20 years on Death Row. Their cells are their homes, with some even allowed a pet moggie, although the authorities draw the line at nipping out for some cat litter.

Among those Trevor meets is Benjamin Ritchie, sentenced to death for shooting and killing a policeman.
"I'm the kind of guy that does need to be in prison," he admits. "Because I'm the kind of guy, if I get fired from a job, I'll try to find a job the legal way, but if I can't, and I can't pay my bills, I'll get a gun and I'll go pay my bills. And I won't think nothing about it."
Ritchie, who must 'watch my wife grow old through these bars', claims he'll feel remorse when executed. "But," he says, "I'd also have a bit of defiance. 'Why are you killing me? You said killing's wrong, but you're premeditatedly strapping me to a table and you're going to poison me to death.
"You're going to kill me.' That's what I would resent."
