The first course, An Introduction to Digital Photography, takes place on Thursday January 19. The session will start with an introduction to digital photography, ensuring that participants get the basics right before introducing them to new creative techniques that will help to take their photography further. Participants are welcome to bring their own camera, alternatively some cameras are available if requested.

The second course, Introduction to Video Recording, takes place on Thursday February 2 focusing on the moving image. During the day participants will learn how to use the basic functions on a digital video camera, with a host of hints, tips and techniques that will give participants' films real impact. All video cameras will be provided.

The final course, Introduction to Video Editing,, which runs on Thursday February 9 takes these skills a step further showing participants how to make the most of Adobe's Premiere Elements software. During the day participants produce their own film, learn how to import footage and still images, complete basic editing, add titles and export their film on to DVD. All equipment will be provided.

To ensure that you get the most out of the day the courses are limited to just eight participants. Pre-booking is essential. If there is sufficient demand additional dates may be added.

The courses all take place at The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery between 10:30am and 3pm. Each course costs £30 and includes lunch.

This series of courses was planned for weekdays, as we were advised that more people would be interested in attending on these days. However we'd be more than happy to put similar courses on at the weekend if the demand is out there. Please email museums@stoke.gov.uk to to express your interest in weekend photography and/or video courses and if enough people contact us, then we'll organise some dates.

“Would any of these corses be repeated at a weekend at all possible. Back in December 2010 I bought a mid-range bridge camera for £160 and have been snapping photos every since. I've even gotten lucky sometimes, and being in the right place at the right time helps. The people on the Flickr website are great and give encouraging feedback, but I'm sure one session with a expert would really help me put my ideas into practice, and also suggest ways in which I can get the most from my Camera.

The only problem is I work (well it's not a problem as such), and it means I can't get to lots of courses that I feel would benefit me. Would this be something that could be looked at?

Anyway, here's the progress I've made this past 12 months.
