Leaders recruit £28k assistant
CITY council leader Mohammed Pervez is recruiting a new 'executive assistant'.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council is hiring the new officer to help manage the leader and deputy leaders' diaries, reply to their emails and screen their phone calls.
A previous secretarial role which covered the responsibilities has been left vacant following an internal job switch.
The new post, which carries a higher salary of up to £28,000, is advertised as a temporary role for an initial six months.

The salary may be downgraded as part of the imminent budget review.
Opposition City Independents have questioned why the vacancy is being filled at all when the authority is preparing to make up to £50 million more budget cuts over two years.
Council spokesman Maureen Eastgate said: "The job is a re-engineered existing job, not a new job.
"The job was advertised at no cost to the council by using our own websites, therefore we feel it has been managed in an appropriate way."

“It seems to me like another shameless example of Labour manipulation Ian. Other groups besides their precious Labour were getting big enough to qualify for political assistants. I think it really irked them the idea of independents having an assistant and even more so I think they felt they had better do away with them quickly because it looked like the BNP were on the verge of qualifying for one. So now they sneak it back in just for themselves. What do you reckon Ian, have I read the situation right or am I being cynical, or both? Admit it though, when you were on the cabinet you seemed to be a nodding donkey just the same.”

“The City Council sacked three Political Assistants in 2008/9. It would seem that the post is to be reinstated.
So will the Conservative and Independent groups also have Assistants appointed to help them organise their diaries and check their e-mails.
Is the Cabinet Office still in existence, doing all the DONKEY WORK for the Cabinet or was that disbanded now that all the cabinet has to do is nod and press the right button when they are told to.!!!”

“Certainly agree gormhenghast about "that blank expression" but the other thing he does is say "I shall remain calm" then doesn't, ending up raising his voice and hitting the bench in the council chamber.

“You are right Nicky you could not make this up, the man and the administration at Stoke are diabolical, "Never has so much been wasted by so few, so often." What to do though? Thats always the come back from the likes of this lily livered bunch of buffoons, and in particular Pervez, his only solution is to don that blank expression and look to others to provide the answer, hence the need to have all those toilet paper carriers surrounding him as he leaves a trail of slime behind him, and his bumbled decisions. Of course any opposition is drowned out by the fat man in the Council Chamber.
Stoke Council always reminds of Animal Farm I have this vivid picture of the characters in charge of the farm sat there in the chamber, with Pickles visiting, what a picture and how strange reality follows fiction, or it did, Stoke Council went one better, THEY CLOSED THE FARM.”

“You couldn't make it up could you?
As for 'screening' the 'phone calls; it's Pervez

who boasted in a full council meeting that he is accessible and if he's out on his mobile people can telephone him and if that's too costly he will call them right back. So where does 'screening' come into that?”
