A VETERAN of many festivals will be headlining a night of comedy next week.

Stan Stanley, pictured below, will take the top spot on the bill at Stand-Up At The Swan, in St Edward Street, Leek, on Thursday, March 4.

Stan appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2003 and his reputation as a comic has gone from strength to strength.

He was invited to perform at the prestigious 'Britcom Show' at the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. His appearance was so successful that organisers decided to extend his stay.

Stan is known for his timing and satirical observations but he is also a prolific writer and has penned sketches for radio and television including two series of Man Stroke Woman for BBC3 and Parsons and Naylor's Big Pullout section for Radio 4.

Stan will be joined on stage by fellow comic David Whitney, pictured right, who ponders on everything from dating to religion.

David, who was born in Scotland, secured his first gig at the Friars Club Beverly Hills as a result of a series of lies.

The gig went well and on his return home, he decided to take up performing full time.

He is now well known on the comedy circuit across the country.

Dan Bland, a deadpan comic who has entertained audiences far and wide, will also be performing at The Swan.

The line up will be completed by North Staffordshire's Andrew Swanson.

Derby-based comedian Pete Smith will be the night's guest compere, although regular host John Woodhouse promises a "minor contribution".

John said: "I think regulars of Stand Up At The Swan would agree that the quality of headliners we have just gets better and better.

"Stand-up is riding the crest of a wave at the moment and the best acts on the circuit actively enjoy coming to Leek because it's something a bit different."

The next Stand Up At The Swan will take place on Thursday, March 4, at The Swan, St Edward Street, Leek. Doors will open at 8pm for an 8.30pm start.

Tickets will be £6 on the door or in advance from The Swan on 01538 382081. Alternatively visit www.funhousecomedy.co.uk or call 0115 9525050.
