RESIDENTS are concerned violent crime is on the increase after two stabbings in just over a month.

A 29-year-old Crewe man sustained stab wounds to his neck and arm after being attacked with a knife.

The victim is currently in a stable condition at Leighton Hospital following the attack at 4.45pm on Thursday in Underwood Lane.

Police are currently questioning a 30-year-old man in connection with the matter.

But it comes after a 21-year-old man suffered a serious neck injury following a separate incident in a field between Frank Webb Avenue and Rolls Avenue on July 14.

Benjamin Taylor, aged 22, and Alex Murphy, aged 18, both of Skylark Close, Crewe, were charged with wounding and will appear at Chester Crown Court on September 29.

People living in the West End area of Crewe are worried about the number of violent incidents on their doorstep.

Jan Wright, of Underwood Lane Tenants' and Residents' Association, said: "There has always been a problem with violent crime here. It's getting to the point where you don't feel safe walking around, especially at night.

"Youths are still continuing to drink on the streets despite the ban. They hang about on the street drinking and then cause trouble."

Mora Cross, aged 37, who lives in Underwood Lane, said: "I always make sure my children are home before dark but the latest stabbing happened in broad daylight which is very frightening."

Detective Constable Claire Jesson, of Crewe CID, has appealed to witnesses and anyone with information to call her or DS Stuart York on 0845 458 0000.
