The Other Side by Kevin Raftery
It can be as much interesting as confusing being half English and half Irish, especially with regards to the Irish connection at Stoke City Football Club. Moreover, there have been some colourful footballing characters that have worn the red, the white and the green over the years whether they were born in Ireland or not.
On the other hand, the Ireland squad that has just exited the Euro Championships 2012 at the first group stage must be one of the worst ever seen in history. On the Irish side, Trapattoni's hotchpotch of neer do wells including Stoke players Glen Whelan and Jonathon Walters has epitomised the offensive Irish joke. On the English side, Roy Hodgson's hastily picked England squad configured from a Premier League glutted with foreign players does not quite sit right with the fans.

Stoke City and Ireland international Glen Whelan
On the Irish side, one could scoff regarding the second generation obscure genetic Irish relative rule where seemingly, anybody who purports to have visited the Emerald Isle in the last 200 years is eligible to play for the Republic. On the English side, one has to only look at successive England teams over the years and the Irish names that have worn the white. We have Pearce, Rooney and Keegan to name a few.
On the Irish side, some would argue that if a team is as poor as the current Ireland team then perhaps it would have been better if they had not qualified at all. On the English side, although they always qualify, and progress in the former rounds; when faced with quality opposition, they never seem to do anything at all.

“It's quite a well-written article considering.
I'm guessing it's part of the author's GCSE Media Studies coursework. I'd grade it about a C.”

“davejjohnson. have just looked at his articles and cannot see any comments from Weirdos and such like but a mixed bag of healthy comments excepting some very nine year old girly comments from you and a small hard core of others. In fact some of his articles are quite cutting edge. Have you written any? You sound like a sad and lonely old man to me and I am 73 years of age”
