Just Another 'Cash Cow' to Hurt Motorist??
Can anyone explain the reasoning behind the average speed cameras and the reduce speed limit on the A500 between Talke roundabout and the M6 motorway?? All the layby's are coned off which makes this road safer to use as there is no chance of slow moving traffic trying to join the road from them. There is NO evidence of any workforce BECAUSE THEY ONLY WORK AT NIGHT WHEN THE ROAD IN BOTH DIRECTION IS CLOSED!! So it is not in order to 'protect the workforce'. I was travelling down the M6 on Monday evening, all the gantry signs were telling me that the road would be closed at 20.00hrs - this would not affect me as I left the motorway at 19.55hrs -WRONG! - The workers were already closing the road! I and other motorists then had to rejoin the motorway and travel to the next junction! Who can I contact who will know the answers to this?

“Yes, it's a cash cow. In the good old days before the country went stupid, the temporary works camera signs on a 70 limit road used to be covered up during the day when the workmen were away, so that the road users could use the carriageway to its full potential. Nowadays, I guess it's more lucrative to keep the cameras on. I wonder how much the delay costs the businessmen like myself who has to use these roads weekly. I used to use the A500 there most days, but now its quicker to come off at the A34 roundabout, go along the A50 and join the motorway one junction up. Every action has its consequence.”

“Can't afford to repair roads can't afford to have street lighting on(a50 talke)so where's the money come from to install these cameras on a road that's not dangerous 60mph on that road is safe to do IMO,they'll be putting speed bumps on motorways next.”

“whilst I agree with britpark to some extent, what they have done seems to be totally unnecessary - perhaps there is a valid explanation and someone could enlighten anyone wondering about this”

“as usual it is a stupid idea, people wait until the last minute to go from 70 to 40 then hit the brakes hard. There is no need at all for the limit to be there all day”
