SOUTH Moorlands FC were worthy winners of their 'Team of the Year' award, says coach Andy Jones.

The team scooped the accolade at the Cheadle Sports Awards, organised by Cheadle District Council, after winning the Potteries Junior Youth League under-12s title in 2008/09.

The lads went through the league campaign unbeaten – firing more than 200 goals.

Jones said: "All the boys have shown fantastic dedication and ability and we are very proud of all of them for winning this award.

"The attitude of all players is always first class and it is a pleasure to work with them. The team started out as a group of children who attended South Moorlands training sessions based at Cheadle Leisure Centre on Saturday mornings and has since grown and developed into a group of boys who are always competitive, show great enthusiasm, but most importantly always have a smile on their faces."

The team currently play under-13s football in Division One of the Potteries Junior Youth League and are currently fourth.

Jones added: "South Moorlands FC is proud of all the teams and children who represent the club. The club is also grateful to have a network of dedicated parents and volunteers who support South Moorlands.

"This, coupled together with the drive and direction given by club chairman Ian Morton and vice-chairman Martyn Hordern, has led to many successes in the 10 years since the club was formed.

"South Moorlands are pleased to support children in and around the Cheadle and the local area."

Players interested in joining South Moorlands FC or wishing to attend a training session should contact Ian Morton on 07594 552318 or Martyn Hordern on 07711 666773.
