SALES of pottery firm Emma Bridgewater's range for the Diamond Jubilee have topped £3 million.

The Hanley-based firm has already sold £3.25 million worth of ware through stockists including high-end retailers such as Harrods.

It is on target to sell more than 50,000 mugs in a range of designs and has now launched a new one inspired by the Diamond Jubilee pageant due to take place on the River Thames in London on June 3.

Co-owner Matthew Rice, who designed the new Thames Flotilla Mug, initially predicted the firm's Diamond Jubilee range would make "at least" £1 million – the same as its Royal Wedding ware last year.

Mr Rice said: "We have never seen demand such as that which we're experiencing for our Jubilee range. It may well be that our designs have captured the public's imagination, but we believe it is also because people know that our ware is made in England and they are proud to buy British."

Emma Bridgewater employs around 180 people at its Lichfield Street factory.
